This was an interesting read and my first Jane Harper book.
Kieran left his small coastal town years ago to start over in Sidney after his older brother, Finn, died. Now due to his dads deteriorating health, he is back to help his mom pack up their home. Kieran always felt his parents blamed him for Finn’s death, and that becomes more apparent while he is back. A storm had moved in fast that day and swept Kieran out into the water, so Finn and another man took their boat to rescue him. Unfortunately the storm overtook the boat and both men died, but Kieran was rescued. However, tragedy struck three families that day. That was also the day another girl disappeared and was never seen again.
Oh boy is there a lot of information in this read. We get a lot of character background including the events leading up to the storm, and the fall out after. Throwing in the disappearance of a little girl in the past and the discovery of a body on the beach in the present make for an interesting story. I was surprised at who was behind the disappearance and the murder. I never once guessed it so bravo.
This one comes out February 2, 2021!
