My Mini Thoughts

Everything explodes pretty quickly in Sandie Jones latest book out this summer.

I feel like DNA is coming more and more into play with books I read this year.  That is how Lauren and Jess found each other.  Jess is the sister Lauren knew about, but Kate did not.  Jess is the one who interrupts Sunday dinner to announce she’s looking for her father who happens to be dead.

Alternating chapters follow Kate and Lauren dealing with the aftermath of their new “sister.”  One is very excited about this new development, and the other is going to get to the bottom of it.  Then there is their mom who is forced to unbury the memories she so long ago buried.  Lauren was hoping that Jess would be the key they needed to bring their family closer together, but it is instead ripping them apart.

As we get further and further into the story, secret after secret and lie after lie are exposed.  There are some doozies which will have you turning the pages.  Then there is the very last page that left my mouth agape!

Thank you Minotaur Books and Author Sandie Jones for my review copy.  Grab yours on June 16, 2020!

Book Rating: 3/5

For the grand finale this would pair nicely with a Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon.

Goodreads Synopsis

Sisters Kate and Lauren meet for Sunday lunch every week without fail, especially after the loss of their father.

But a knock at the door is about to change everything. A young woman by the name of Jess holds a note with the results of a DNA test, claiming to be their half sister.

As the fallout starts, it’s clear that they are all hiding secrets, and perhaps this family isn’t as perfect as it appears.
